All living cells require water to survive and develop. We as humans can tolerate a couple of weeks without food; however, without water for a couple of days, we are not going to last long. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that we provide our body with enough water for a healthy body and a sound mind. It is universally acknowledged that we should drink two gallons of water each day. However, according to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “forty-three percent of adult drink less than four cups of water a day. That includes 36 percent who drink one to three cups, and 7 percent who drink none” (CBS News). Not drinking an adequate amount of water poses many negative effects on the body including feeling of tiredness, lack of energy and accumulation of toxicity. How to remind people to drink more water and scientifically distribute that amount throughout the day is a challenging problem. Our team is motivated and inspired to address that problem by creating a smart water bottle. It is capable of both recording user’s drinking habits and informing them to drink water if they have not met the requirement.
